-Where does chocolate come from? Actually, it DOES grow on trees. It all starts with a small tropical tree, the Theobroma cacao, usually called simply, "cacao." (Pronounced ka-KOW. Theobroma is Greek for "food of the gods.") Cacao is native to Central and South America, but it is grown commercially throughout the tropics. About 70% of the world's cacao is grown in Africa.
-In the 17Th Century, the first recorded case of “Death by Chocolate” occurred.
-Although chocolate is not an aphrodisiac, it contains phenylethylamine(PEA), a natural substance that is reputed to state the same reaction in the body as falling in love. Hence, heartbreak and loneliness are reasons for over-indulgence of this sweet treat.
-Chocolate syrup was used for blood in the 45 second shower scene in "Psycho" by Alfred Hitchcock.
